Dan was working for Sid Meier's Firaxis Games when he hosted a TradeWars server for Firaxis employees in the early 2000s. While at Firaxis, Dan produced Sid Meier's Railroads!, Sid Meier's Pirates!, and Sid Meier's Civilization IV, along with a number of smaller projects (Civilization Boardgame, gold packs, etc).
Since leaving Firaxis, Dan joined NCSoft, then founded 2K Games Austin, and is current (2010) with Online Alchemy.
Posting in the Apolyton TradeWars forum, Dan described the game as "the Nethack of space/trading games", and recalled "the first time I really started playing it, I was hopelessly addicted."
