Richard Garriott founded Origin Systems in 1983. At Origin, he is best known from his work on the Ultima series. In 2000, Garriott left Origin to start Destination Games. Destination was picked up by NCsoft a year later. While with NCsoft, Garriott's company acquired Realm Interactive and TradeWars: Dark Millennium. Soon after, the game was cancelled and many of its developers and artists joined the Tabula Rasa project which had begun in 2001 but was being revamped.
In 2008, because Tabula Rasa had not met NCsoft expectations, Garriott was terminated.
