THE WANDERERS is one of the many add-ons available for TradeWars 2002
version 2 from SimSoft Professional Computer Services. We have paid very
close attention to detail in an attempt to make THE WANDERERS appear to be an
actual part of the TradeWars game, even down to the colors of the messages
that are sent to traders when THE WANDERERS encounter them. If you notice
something that you believe could make THE WANDERERS appear even more as part
of the actual game, please drop us a note or give us a call.
THE WANDERERS are planets that have for some reason or another, spun out of
their orbits and are floating around in the universe, always on the move.
When THE WANDERERS is run the first time, it will create the specified number
of planets in the planet database and stock them accordingly with fuel ore,
organics, equipment, colonists, and fighters. It will then proceed to move
THE WANDERERS one at a time, through the specified number of sectors.
If the /NR (No Remain) parameter was NOT specified, it will search each
sector that each wanderer enters for other planets. If it determines that,
including itself, there are more than the maximum planets allowed per sector
in the current sector, it will stop moving and remain there. (a real bummer
for the owners of the other planets. If maintenance runs before they can get
rid of the Wanderer, EXTERN will cause a couple of the planets to collide).
After the initial run of the program, it will then check to see if any of the
planets have been destroyed. If so, it will create new wanderers to take
their place. It will then deposit the specified amounts of fuel ore,
organics, equipment, colonists, and fighters on each of the wanderers.
If the /AC (Allow Claiming) parameter is specified, the program will also
check each wanderer for ownership, upon startup. If any have been claimed,
a new wanderer will be created and the old wanderer will no longer move.
NOTE:
The first time WANDER.EXE is run, a file will be created in the directory
which contains WANDER.EXE called WANDER.INS, and a message will be posted to
all traders that the THE WANDERERS has been unleashed in the TradeWars
universe. It is a small file, and simply contains the date that the THE
WANDERERS was installed in the tradewars game. This file must be present
after this run. If it is not, the program will continually post the above
message to the traders every time that it is run. WANDER /REMOVE will delete
this file, and post a second message to the traders that THE WANDERERS have
been removed.
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=--=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
To run the THE WANDERERS add-on, you can place it in the TW2002 directory
and just type: WANDER and press ENTER. It is best run however, just after
the TradeWars maintenance program EXTERN.EXE. You should place it in your
nightly maintenance batch file so it is called directly after EXTERN.EXE.
Another option is to place WANDER.EXE program in a different directory if
you do not like to mix your different programs in the same directory. If
this is the case, you will need to add the /DP command line parameter so that
THE WANDERERS can find the TradeWars data files.
Example: WANDER /DP:C:\DOORS\TW2002
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=--=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
There are several command lines parameters that are available to modify the
way THE WANDERERS acts. Most of these however, are only available in the
registered version. The command line parameters are listed below, with the
registered features marked with an asterisk.
Optional command line parameters:
/DP:xxx Allows you to set the path to the TradeWars data files.
The following example would run THE WANDERERS, telling it to
look for the TradeWars data files in the C:\DOORS\TW2002 directory.
Example: WANDER /DP:C:\DOORS\TW2002
* /ST:xxx Allows you to set the number of sectors that THE WANDERERS will
travel through. Range = 1 - 255, Default = 5.
The following example would run THE WANDERERS, telling it that
you want THE WANDERERS to travel through 20 sectors instead of
the default 5.
Example: WANDER /ST:20
* /DAY:xx Specifies the Day to actually run. 1=Sunday, 2=Monday, 3=Tuesday,
4=Wednesday, 5=Thursday, 6=Friday, 7=Saturday, R=Random. The day
numbers can be in any order and in any combination. If R is
specified, the day numbers will be ignored. You could have the
THE WANDERERS run through the universe every day of the week if
you wanted. The Unregistered version will only move on Fridays.
The following example would run THE WANDERERS, telling it to move
randomly. ie. the program will pick a number between 0 and 1. If
it chooses 1, the THE WANDERERS will run. If it chooses 0, it
will not.
Example: WANDER /DAY:R
The following example would run THE WANDERERS, telling it to only
move through sectors on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
Example: WANDER /DAY:345
* /NP:xxx Number of planets to maintain as Wanderers. Range is limited to
number of available records, Default = 2.

The following example would run THE WANDERERS, telling it to
deposit 2000 colonists on each newly created wanderer.
Example: WANDER /IC:2000
* /IF:xxx Initial Fighters to deposit on new planets. Range = 0 - 10000,
Default = 1000.
The following example would run THE WANDERERS, telling it to
deposit 2000 fighters on each newly created wanderer.
Example: WANDER /IF:2000
* /ORE:xxx Amount of Fuel Ore to deposit on the planet each time the program
is run. Range = 0 - 1000, Default = 50.
The following example would run THE WANDERERS, telling it to
deposit 200 units of fuel ore on each wanderer, each time the
program is run.
Example: WANDER /ORE:200
* /ORG:xxx Amount of Organics to deposit on the planet each time the program
is run. Range = 0 - 1000, Default = 50.
The following example would run THE WANDERERS, telling it to
deposit 200 units of organics on each wanderer, each time the
program is run.

is run.
Example: WANDER /FGT:200
* /AC Allow Claimimg of planets. Specifies that traders are able to
claim the Wanderers. Inventories will not be deposited once
claimed. Planets will still move unless /AS is specified.
The following example would run THE WANDERERS, telling it to
allow the planets to be claimed.
Example: WANDER /AC
* /AS Allow Stopping of claimed planets. If a planet is claimed, it
stops in the sector where claimed and a new wanderer will be
created. If /AS is specified, it should be understood that /AC
is implied.
The following example would run THE WANDERERS, telling it to
allow the planets to stop once they are claimed.
Example: WANDER /AS /AC
* /NR DO NOT Allow planets to remain in sectors that are currently at
the max number of planets per sector.
The following example would run THE WANDERERS, telling it to
not stay in a sector if there are already the maximum number

you do not want it to enter sectors 1 - 10, the stardock sector, or
either of the 2 class 0 port sectors.
Example: WANDER /NOFED
/LOG Causes all THE WANDERERS actions to be written to a log file.
The following example would run THE WANDERERS, telling it that you
want it to write everything that it does to the log file
WANDER.LOG.
Example: WANDER /LOG
* /LOC Displays the sector location of the THE WANDERERS planets.
The following example would run THE WANDERERS, telling it that you
want it to display the sector location of the WANDERERS in the
database, then terminate.
Example: WANDER /LOC
* /REMOVE Removes the THE WANDERERS alien from the Alien database.
The following example would run THE WANDERERS, telling it that
you want it to remove THE WANDERERS from the planet database.
If THE WANDERERS is run after this is done, it will add them
back to the database.
Example: WANDER /REMOVE
/@xxxxx Tells THE WANDERERS to look for all other command line options in
the file xxxxx.
The following example would run THE WANDERERS, telling it that all
command line options are in the file WANDER.PAR.
Example: WANDER /@WANDER.PAR
The format for the parameter file is simple. Just place each
command line option on a separate line. See the file SAMPLE.PAR
for an example.
Most parameters can be used in cunjunction with another. Note that some
parameters do not send the WANDER on its way through the universe, but merely
do something then exit, such as /LOC and /REMOVE.

UPGRADING NOTES:
Any updates to this program may be copied directly over the current version.
We do recommend, however, that you run WANDER /REMOVE with the old version,
before running the new version. The new version will add him back into the
game the first time that it is run.
